Why Bio-Luminescence

I recently read a book called Start with Why by Simon Sinek. And it left an impressions on me. Essentially it's a book that asks you to go deeper into why you do the things you do. This question is framed from the perspective of business and work but I think it can be applied a bit more broadly.

After readying the book I started looking differently at some of my past work that I would consider to be more successful. One example is the project pictured above that I did in the third year of my industrial design degree. It ended up winning am award and I remember the whole process being a pleasure. I think this was because it so closely aligned with my own values. I could put my "why" to use. The brief was to create a more inclusive pathway for parks (I can't remember what the broader ask was, something about inclusive design).

I took it one step further and included an eco-friendly element to it. The pathway uses bio-luminescence to create light, without the need for constant electricity. I did this because finding a way to be kinder to the planet is deeply important to me. I don't think we as a species show enough respect for the planet that literally makes it possible for us to exist.

I was so proud of this project, and though it might be a little dated at this point I think I'll include it in my portfolio non the less.
